On April 19, the Chaguaramas Development Authority (CDA) hosted its inaugural Career Fair “Opportunities of a Lifetime”, a two-day event that provided a platform for the CDA’s investors to meet educational institutions, job seekers and entrepreneurs. The forum attracted hundreds of patrons seeking career, business and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Visitors were introduced to the Chaguaramas Master Plan, and the many opportunities being created by the ongoing development of the Peninsula. The CDA invited education institutions, including The University of the West Indies (UWI), The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT), College of Science Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago and the Trinidad and Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute (TTHTI) to share with participants, programmes that could assist them in securing jobs on the Peninsula.
The Chaguaramas Boardwalk, for example, created 1,190 jobs during construction and will facilitate a further 8,000 direct and indirect jobs when fully operational. Other planned projects are expected to generate an additional 540 new direct and indirect jobs. Chaguaramas is expected to generate more than 10,000 new jobs within the next three years.
With these career development initiatives, our nation stands to benefit greatly from the wider range of job opportunities and business diversification so crucial to our nation’s economic development. For us, this is just the beginning of a future that is somewhere close to magic.
